What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Non-personally-identifying information

Like most website operators, GoFish! Communications collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. GoFish! Communications’ purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how our visitors use our website. From time to time, we may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

GoFish! Communications also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on https://www.gofishcomm.ca/ blog posts. We only disclose logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that we use and disclose personally-identifying information as described below.

Personally-identifying information

Certain visitors to GoFish! Communications' websites choose to interact with our websites in ways that require us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that GoFish! Communications gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up for our newsletter at https://www.gofishcomm.ca/ to provide their name, email address, and geographical region.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

This allows us to (1) send a record of their responses to the person using the tool, and (2) monitor who our audiences are, so that we may tailor our content to better meet their needs. At the time you use our free tools, you will have the option to opt-in or opt-out of receiving additional email messages from GoFish! Communications, other than the response receipt. The tools are built using Google Forms, and the information collected by the forms is stored on our secure Google Drives.
